Please STOP the seal hunt !!!

The annual Canadian seal hunt is underway. I break down and cry every year when I see this cruel, cruel practice. How is it that we humans are capable of so much cruelty?

Seal hunting takes place in Canada, Greenland, Namibia, Norway, US, and Russia. Apparently Russia has banned it this year.

Do we really need to club baby seals to death for their pelt, blubber and meat? If we do have to have these things, can it not be done more humanely? What kind of world is this, where such actions are legal and commonplace?

Please click here if you'd like to sign the petition to protest this year's seal hunt.

Hi Bindu, I find these culls so upsetting that I cannot watch them any longer. I really dont know what can be done to stop this barbaric practice. Will a petition stop it, it would be good if it did. So sad.

I can't even think about it. It gives me sleepless nights. Sadly, I don't think any petition will stop it. Have signed before, many times. It's still going on.

Will definitely sign up. Clubbing seals and hunting whales is so unethical - can't understand how people can do it.

I saw some of the tools used for the hunt in a museum down the street and it is sickeningly brutal. The seafood boycott sounds like it would be effective because it targets those who are pro seal hunt. In fact public outcry has often succeeded in stopping the seal hunt, (it may start up again in later years, but it does stop it at the time) so in this case its easier to make a difference.

Oh Bindu... I'll definitely sign the petition. How this can continue is baffling to me and it truly makes me sick.

Maintaining a respectful relationship to animals is key to any kind of self-respect as a species. This sort of "hunt" is a form of insanity and ultimately self-hatred.

I am glad you blogged on this. It is such a vital issue, I don't know when humans will realize how crucial it is to protect the various species of the world.

That sounds so cruel.

It is inhuman... may be one petition will not stop it, but I really believe that if we, as commonb people, from who every government, every society draws its power, keep speaking up against it, it will be stopped!

I cry with you. The hunting of dolphins is another barbaric practice that makes me weep.

As sad as it all is, I am sure the issues revolving around it are more complex than they are made out to be by the humane society, and at the cost of sounding pessimistic, I am not sure they can be resolved by signing a petition. Still, no matter how complicated the issues may be to resolve, there simply is no justification for the barbaric way in which the seals are killed. That ought to be stopped, pronto. And if for that reason alone, I will sign the petition. If the industry is really necessary, I am sure there is a much more humane way to go about it. As it stands right now, it is downright brutal.
