Cactus Flowers

In Austin, soft spring days are lengthening into the warmer days of summer. The purple sheen of bluebonnets along the roads in the hill country are slowly fading. Golden yellow wildflowers still nod cheerfully along the roads, sprinkled with reds and pinks here and there.

It's a beautiful time here. Red-headed cardinals sing sweet songs from their perch in our backyard trees. The cats laze in the sun and the squirrels in the trees scold them incessantly. Woodpeckers and hummingbirds too visit, on occasion.

Above all, these early days of summer are when the cacti are in bloom. How bright and showy their flowers are! Here are some pictures from around where we live and from near my university.

Have a colorful week!

Beautiful photos, Bindu! It looks lovely where you are, and the cactus blooms are so joyful.

(PS: Cacti are sometimes the portal between different worlds ... if you look!)

What beautiful pix bindu. I had a Christmas cactus once. My ability to keep it alive failed me. How do you kill a cactus? Beats me, but I managed to do it.

I love the colors and the fact that each picture is so clear and precise. You do great work.

Raph - now that I know where the portal is, I just might land up in giraffe land! :)

Thanks, Blu.

Shayla, ArtSparker, glad you liked them.

Marukatsu - thanks for stopping by! Glad you liked the pictures.

Jude - hope the smile stays for you! Take care.

Shalini, Indrani - thanks!

Nancy - Shadow, my shy cat who is still feral at heart thanks you for noticing him. :)

Meb - thanks. Glad you liked the pictures! Over-watering kills cacti. I have several small ones in pots at my kitchen window and am careful while watering them, but I recently killed one that I've had for a long time. Very careless of me. :(

Oh to be a cat...especially a lucky black one. These cactus blooms are so beautiful. Amazing that an unfriendly plant like a cactus can produces such delicate and exquisite flowers.
