music and silver

It's concert season in Austin! Last weekend it was carnatic violin by Dr. L. Subramaniam. The last time I'd heard him live was 16 summers ago, when I had been in the U.S. for just a couple of weeks. My sister took me to the concert at Ann Arbor and I was spellbound. The amount of energy and melody in his music gives me goosebumps. The concert was sublime.

Over the next few weeks, we will get to listen to hindustani violin by Kala Ramnath, carnatic guitar by Prasanna, and hindustani vocal by Pandit Jasraj. I'm really looking forward to the concerts because Jasraj and Prasanna are among my favorites. I haven't heard Kala Ramnath play, but it should be good.

Interestingly, 16 years ago when I listened to Dr. L. Subramaniam with my sister, it was a set of two concerts, and Pandit Jasraj gave a morning concert with morning ragas, which was a first for me. I will again get to listen to both these artists in the same season this year!

I was looking through my collection of Indian jewelery which I get to use only for such events. I can't stop admiring the beauty of oxidized silver Indian jewelery. Whether I wear them or not, these pieces are lovely to even just look at!
